New Albion Gallery to move to Sherman Goodhope in 2013

New Albion Gallery secures Sherman, Goodhope Exhibition Space from 2013

The owners of New Albion Gallery are delighted to announce that they have secured a long term lease of the former Sherman Galleries Goodhope Street gallery space, one of Australia’s most renowned and admired exhibition venues.

From January 2013 onwards, New Albion Gallery will operate from the exhibition space currently housing the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF) at 18 Goodhope Street, Paddington. The SCAF will relocate to the new Sherman Family Gallery at the University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts (COFA) as part of the $48 million federally funded Gateway@ project at COFA.

Opening next month, New Albion Gallery will focus on representing and exhibiting top tier international and Australian contemporary artists, as well as regularly showing modern international classics. New Albion Gallery will be based initially within the Deutscher and Hackett 400 square metre exhibition space in Oxford Street, before moving to its permanent premises at Goodhope Street in 2013.

The new gallery is owned by the owners of Deutscher and Hackett but will operate as an independent business. Associate Director, Adam Sims will run the gallery. Doug Hall AM, a former Director of the Queensland Art Gallery and Australian Commissioner for the 54th Venice Biennale 2011, will be involved with artists and the exhibition program as Consulting Curator.

New Albion Gallery will lease the exhibition space of the Goodhope Street premises as an entirely independently owned and operated commercial enterprise. SCAF will continue to be based at the adjoining 20 Goodhope Street annexe and will operate the SCAF’s popular Culture and Ideas Forums from this location.
